SMS/TEXT ALERTING INFORMATION

Information regarding CodeRED’s SMS text notification program.

CodeRED sends important and informational text alerts for government organizations. These notifications can be voice phone calls, emails, and now, SMS Text messages to cell phones.

How It Works

If your organization chooses to use SMS Text Messaging, they will send a voice message to your cell phone telling you how to “opt-in.” To receive text message notifications, you must respond to this message by texting the word Start to 76993 (the CodeRED short code.) * Message and data rates may apply. T-Mobile is not liable for delayed or undeliverable messages.

When CodeRED receives this Start text message, we will “Opt-in” your cell phone to receive text alerts and send a confirmation to your cell phone by text. If you are a member of more than one organization using the CodeRED service, you will be “opted-in” for all groups that have your cell number in their calling list. If your preference is to receive text messages for only some, but not all, of these organizations, contact the organization’s group leader or CodeRED’s support team. * Message frequency varies.

You will receive this “opt-in” phone call only if your phone number is in a calling list for an organization using the CodeRED service. If you do not respond by sending the word Start to CodeRED, you will not receive any text messages from your organization via the CodeRED service.

How to Use Text Messaging

New to Texting? To send a text message, open up the “Menu” on your cell phone and look for the “Messaging” option (this usually looks like an envelope.) Select “New Text Message.” Type in 76993 in the “To” field and type the word Alert in the message field. Note: some cell phones have you type your message first and enter whom you are sending it to second.

Receiving text messages is easy. When a message is received, your phone will notify you. Just select to “view” the message. To view the message again, open up your “Menu,” select “Messaging” (usually an envelope) and select “Inbox.” All the text messages you have recently received will be in your “Inbox.”

How to Opt-Out

If you would like to stop receiving text messages, you can opt-out by texting the word Stop to 76993 from your cell phone. Text messages will be disabled to your number. (You can opt-in again at any time by texting Alert to 76993.)

If you choose to Opt-out of text messaging, you will continue to receive voice phone calls to your cell phone.
